Une sacrée bande de bandits dans cette mairie/hôtel de ville avec cette histoire de LEZ. Si on n'inscrit pas sa voiture en amont pour rouler en voiture dans la ville vous recevrez une jolie amende de 150 EUR; et si vous ne payez pas c'est l'huissier qui se pointe chez vous. La ville est truffée de cameras pour traquer les automobilistes. Radars sur une rue sur 2 et cameras sur 1 feu sur 2;
Et bien sur quand on arrive en ville aucune information par rapport à l'enregistrement LEZ. Aucune. Voilà ce qu'on appelle une belle Europe harmonieuse avec des villes (et pas des pays) qui font ce qu'ils veulent et volent les citoyens européens. De faire fuir les touristes et engranger de sacrés ressources financières sur le dos d'honnêtes citoyens européens.
Il faudrait monter une association de défense contre ce genre d'arnaque.

Ik zet met mijn wagen vrienden af aan de Roma. Stop ergens op een breed stuk stoep. Het duurt amper een minuut. Maand later gasboete van 116 euro in de bus. Ik teken bezwaar aan omdat ik de boete echt buiten proportie vind. Ik heb niemand gehinderd. Maar 't is een no go: ik moet betalen. Uit ongenoegen betaal ik een maand te laat. 6 maand later brief van deurwaarderkantoor Modero in de bus. Ik zou nog een schuld van 78 euro hebben. Blijkbaar heb ik een herinneringsbrief van 't stad gemist waarop ze nog 20 euro inningskosten aanrekenen wegens te laat betaald. Brief nooit ontvangen, dus hebben de aasgieren van 't stad een deurwaarder ingeschakeld om alsnog die 20 euro te innen. Wat doe je dan? Gefrustreerd die extra schuld betalen, want je hebt geen poot om op te staan. Dus geef ik nu uit ongenoegen geen euro meer uit in 't stad. Zal mijn zuurverdiende centjes wel op de parking spenderen!

Never do I post negative reviews, but Antwerp successfully got me to this point. I advise not to spend money in this city as they have found other means of getting rich: the so called "Low Emission Zone". A zone that applies to every car and positioning of signs indicating the zone is way below par. There is one spot where these signs are behind an advertising column at one side of the road and at the other side the sign is hidden behind a tree and a pole. You are ought to drive "normally and carefully" (read: drive much slower than everyone else and switch lanes abruptly. Meaning you drive abnormally and dangerously) and then "you must have seen these signs". Anyone with common sense understands that this does not make any sense at all.
This zone is NOT by any means used to reduce emissions (for whatever the effect is), but rather to get huge sums of money from people who are dependent on their car. No warnings given if you accidentally enter this zone despite the poor placement of the signs; the responsible staff is unshakeable. A first "violation" always results in a fine of €150 (in 2023) by law. A second and third violation results increases the fine to €250 and €350 respectively.
Motorcyclists can freely enter the zone. Not because of any emission reasons: there are currently no means to enforce the zone as the cameras (there are many) cannot recognise the license plates. This clearly shows the true intent of the zone.
Ironically, the fine is sent via priority mail, registered and everything. Brought home to you all the way from Antwerp by diesel driven vehicles (which they plan to ban completely in their city).

Warning - do not travel to Antwerp by car! € 150,- fine.

The whole city of Antwerp is a "low emission zone". Vehicles will need to be pre-registered to make sure they comply with the required emission levels.

As an unsuspecting and unaware visitor, I drove through Antwerp without pre-registering, only to find a € 150,- fine in my mailbox 9 months after the event. For the first offense, you may be able to reduce the fine to € 75,- if you deliver proof that your vehicle is emission compliant.

My proof was not accepted, even though it was a pure ELECTRIC VEHICLE, no combustion engine, no exhaust, 100% compliance with any emission standard. This tells me that the motivation of the city is probably less driven by the environment, but more geared towards generating fines.

I will certainly never again visit Antwerp for private purposes and will recommend that you shouldn't either, given the methods applied by this city.
